DGAC AD No.: T2002-331-071(A) - EUROCOPTER - AS 355 Helicopters

SUBJECT: MGB - Lubrication Pump (ATA 63)

1. EFFECTIVITY

AS 355 helicopters, versions E, F, F1, F2 and N equipped with main gearbox (MGB) lubrication pumps, all part numbers.

2. REASON

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) is issued following four reports of MGB lubrication pump deterioration. In time, the insufficiently lubricated power transmission assembly deteriorates until it causes the loss of the drive train for one or even both engines (deterioration of the combiner gearbox gears).

3. MANDATORY ACTIONS AND COMPLIANCE TIME

The following actions are rendered mandatory on the effective date of this AD:

3.1. At each ALF-check (after the last flight of the day) without exceeding 10 hours between two checks, inspect the magnetic plug and the MGB oil sight in compliance with the instructions described in paragraph 2.B.l of EUROCOPTER AS 355 Alert Telex No. 05.00.40 referenced below.

Depending on the result of the check, comply with the instructions given in paragraph 2.B.2 of the Alert Telex referenced below.

32. Before installing a main gearbox (MGB) or a pump held as spares, with flight hours (except for newly overhauled MGBs), on an aircraft, perform the operations described in paragraph 2.B.2 of the Alert Telex referenced below.

REF.: EUROCOPTER AS 355 Alert Telex No. 05.00.40.

EFFECTIVE DATE: ON RECEIPT.
