AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

Number: CF-2001-33

Subject: BeII206A, 206B and 206L-Chip Detector Assembly (Tedeco B3188B and B4093)

Effective: 30 September 2001

Applicability: Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) Model 206A, 206B and 206L Series helicopters, equipped with Tedeco B3l88B and B4093 chip detector assemblies.

Compliance: Within 60 days from the effective date of this directive, unless already accomplished.

Background: Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) has become aware that Tedeco B3l88B and B4093 chip detectors installed on Model 206A, 206B and 206L Series helicopters could possibly have poor or no continuity between the insert and the chip detector housing. This could result in no chip indication when the chip detector has been bridged by metal particles. BHTC and EATON TEDECO PRODUCTS have issued Alert Service Bulletins requiring a continuity test and temporary repair of the affected chip detectors. This directive mandates these Alert Service Bulletins (ASB).

Corrective Actions: Verify and repair Tedeco chip detectors as follows:

(i) For Bell 206A and 206B helicopters: Perform a continuity test and repair in accordance with BHTC ASB 206-01-96, Rev. A, or later Transport Canada approved revisions;

(ii) For Bell 206L helicopters: Perform a continuity test and repair in accordance with BHTC ASB 206L-01-119, Rev. A, or later Transport Canada approved revisions;

(iii) Check spare units by test using the appropriate BHTC ASB identified above; and

(iv) If the units are repaired, replace them within 300 hours air time with new chip detectors, but no later than 31 March 2002.
