AIRBUS INDUSTRIE

A310 and A300-600 aircraft

Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer - THSA life limit (ATA 27)

APPLICABILITY:

AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A310 and A300-600 aircraft, all certified models and all serial numbers.

REASONS:

The THSA (Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator) was certified for an operational life of 47,000 flight hours. Some THSAs installed on aircraft have now reached this limit.

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) increases the operational life limit from 47,000 flight hours to 65,000 flight hours / 40,000 flight cycles, provided an initial inspection together with a scheduled maintenance program are performed on certain components of the THSA.

ACTIONS:

From the effective date of this AD, the following measures are rendered mandatory:

1) Before the THSA has accumulated 47,000 flight hours or within 600 flight hours following the effective date of this AD, whichever occurs later, perform a first inspection of certain components of the THSA and apply the corrective measures if necessary, according to the methods defined in AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin (SB) A310-27-2089 Revision 2 or A300-27-6044 Revision 3.

If the THSA flight hours are not known, these actions must be carried out prior to accumulation of 47,000 flight hours since aircraft entry into service or within 600 flight hours following the effective date of this AD, whichever occurs later.

2) Perform the repetitive maintenance tasks mentioned in SB A310-27-2089 Revision 2 or A300-27-6044 Revision 3, in accordance with the methods and intervals defined in these SB.
