AIRCRAFT - RAM AIR TURBINE - OVERHAUL

Applicability: AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600 aircraft, all certified models and all serial numbers, which are fitted with a DOWTY or HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND ram air turbine.

Effective date: August 09, 2001

Compliance: Required as indicated in DGAC AD 2001-212(B).

Remarks: The compliance of this AD must be recorded in Aircraft Logbook, where applicable the requirements of this AD must be integrated into Aircraft Technical Documentation. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE

A300, A310 and A300-600 aircraft

Auxiliary hydraulic power - Overhaul and modification to the ram air turbine (ATA 29)

APPLICABILITY:

AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600 aircraft, all certified models and all serial numbers, which are fitted with a DOWTY or HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND ram air turbine.

REASONS:

The extension of the "Ram Air Turbine" (RAT) operating life has been justified to 60,000 flight hours. However, and in order to take into account technical considerations linked to the life limitation of the grease and corrosion issues, a periodic overhaul of the RAT is rendered mandatory.

In addition, modifications recommended until now are also rendered mandatory on the occasion of this overhaul.

ACTIONS:

1) Prior to accumulation of 20 years since the first installation on aircraft, or within two years following the effective date of this AD, whichever occurs later, perform an overhaul of the RAT, in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletins (SBs) A300-29-0118, A310-29-2087 or A300-29-6049.

This overhaul will be completed simultaneously and depending on the configuration of each RAT, by the application of modifications in accordance with the instructions of SBs A300-29-0118, A310-29-2087 or A300-29-6049.

2) Perform an overhaul of the RAT every 20 years, in accordance with the instructions of SBs A300-29-0118, A310-29-2087 or A300-29-6049.
