AIRCRAFT - RUDDER SERVO CONTROL SPRING RODS (ATA 27) - INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT

Applicability: AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600, all certified models, all serial numbers except for:

- aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No.10438 has been embodied after July 10, 1999 (effective date of the original issue of this Airworthiness Directive),

- aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2 or A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2 have been embodied.

Effective date: February 24, 2000

Compliance: Required as indicated in DGAC AD 1999-240-288(B) R1.

Remarks: The compliance of this AD must be recorded in Aircraft Logbook, where applicable the requirements of this AD must be integrated into Aircraft Technical Documentation. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE

A300, A310 and A300-600 aircraft

Flight controls - Rudder servo control input spring rods (ATA 27)

APPLICABILITY :

AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600, all certified models, all serial numbers except for:

- aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No.10438 has been embodied after July 10, 1999 (effective date of the original issue of this Airworthiness Directive),

- aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2 or A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2 have been embodied.

REASONS:

Cases of jammed rudder servo control input spring rods caused by internal corrosion and clogged drain holes have been reported on in-service aircraft.

Simultaneous jamming of 2 out of the 3 rudder-control input spring rods could lead to significant shift of the rudder from the neutral position.

Revision 1 of this Airworthiness Directive is issued to provide the operators with an exhaustive list of the appropriate rudder servo control input spring rod part numbers.

ACTIONS :

Before June 30, 2000:

Modify or replace the spring rods in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2, A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2.

On aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 10438 has been embodied before July 10, 1999 (effective date of the original issue of this Airworthiness Directive) or on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 (original issue or revision 1) or A310-27-2065 (original issue or revision 1) or A300-27-6023 (original issue or revision 1) has been embodied, verify that all of the 3 rudder servo control input spring rods have of one of the following part numbers:

- P/N A2727086500400

- P/N A2727086500600

- P/N A2727114900000

Pre AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 10438 input spring rods P/N A2727086500200 are to be modified or replaced in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2, A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2.
