AIRBUS INDUSTRIE
A310 and A300-600 aircraft
Fire protection - Engine and auxiliary power unit (APU) fire detection system (ATA 26)
APPLICABILITY:
AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A310 and A300-600 Aircraft, all certified models, all serial numbers, on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modifications no. 06267 and 07340 have not been embodied in production.
REASONS:
Investigations further to an uncontained engine fire revealed that the operating logic of the fire detection and associated fire warning triggering systems may lead to engine/APU fire situations for which the fire warning goes out shortly after triggering, while the fire has not gone out.
In order to prevent such situation from reoccurring and cancel the requirement of any action from the crew to reactivate the fire warning, the following wiring modifications are rendered mandatory.
The purpose of Revision 02 of this Airworthiness Directive is to take into account Revision 06 of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A310-26-2024, which introduces a new configuration for A310 aircraft (aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 6845 has not been embodied in production, except for aircraft MSN 419, 424, 427 and 430).
ACTIONS:
Before May 31, 2001, unless already accomplished, apply the wiring modifications to the engine and APU fire detection system, in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A310-26-2024 Revision 06 or A300-26-6038 Revision 02.
The additional work specified in the instructions of Revision 06 of SB A310-26-2024, must be performed before May 31, 2001, on the A310 aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 6845 has not been embodied in production (except for aircraft MSN 419, 424, 429 and 430) and on which SB A310-26-2024 Revision 05 would already have been embodied on the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive.
