APPLICABILITY:
AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600 aircraft, all certified models and all serial numbers, which are fitted with a DOWTY/SUNDSTRAND HAMILTON ram air turbine, P/N:
| RAT 16C 100 VG, | RAT 16C 103 VG, | RAT 16C 110 VG, |

REASONS:
Prevent any corrosion and/or improper adjustment of the rod which ensures the locking of the ram air turbine in rotation, which could subsequently prevent its unlocking during deployment in flight, and consequently, lead to the failure of the associated hydraulic pump to operate.
Airworthiness Directives (ADs) 93-136-146(B) and 98-448-262(B) already rendered corrective actions mandatory. This AD, which underlines the revisions of the referenced Service Bulletins, is issued in order to take into account the extended applicability (additional ram air turbine part numbers).
ACTIONS:
The following actions are rendered mandatory from the effective date of this AD.
1. Within 500 flight hours following the effective date of this AD, except if already performed in accordance with the requirements of AD 93-136-146(B), perform a ram air turbine deployment test and check the adjustment of the locking rod, followed by a lubrication task, in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletins (SBs) A300-29-0101 Revision 2, A310-29-2039 Revision 2 or A300-29-6030 Revision 2.
Aircraft which have already been checked and tested in accordance with the requirements of AD 93-136-146(B) will have to be checked and tested again in accordance with the instructions of the same SBs, within 10 months following the last check/inspection performed.
2. Repeat the same tests and inspections in accordance with the instructions of SBs A300-29-0101 Revision 2, A310-29-2039 Revision 2 or A300-29-6030 Revision 2 at intervals not exceeding 10 months.
3. Before December 31, 2002, modify and re-identify the ram air turbines, in accordance with the instructions of SBs A300-29-0106 Revision 3, A310-29-2078 Revision 3 or A300-29-6039 Revision 3 (modification No. 11206).
Ram air turbines P/N RAT l6C 102 VG will have to be modified previously, in accordance with the instructions of SBs A300-29-0088 or A310-29-2013 (modification No. 6054).
