SWEDISH AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES (SAD) No: 1-151
AIRCRAFT TYPE: SAAB SF 340A and SAAB 340B
SERIAL No's. AFFECTED: SAAB SF 340A -004 through -159 and SAAB 340B -160 through -459
SUBJECT: Fire Protection - Cargo compartment smoke detectors - Replace Fenwall smoke detector with Cerberus smoke detector
BACKGROUND: Field experience has demonstrated bad reliability with the Fenwall smoke detectors located in the cargo compartment. During high humidity environmental conditions false warnings have occurred causing the flight crew to perform the necessary emergency procedures. New developments in smoke detector technology have made it possible to produce detectors that are substantially less susceptible to humidity and thereby minimizing false warnings. This SAD mandates replacement of the current cargo compartment smoke detectors with new units that have increased reliability and decreased maintenance.
