AIRBUS INDUSTRIE
A310 and A300-600 aircraft
101VU panel - Contactor l5XE (ATA 24)
APPLICABILITY:
AIRBUS INDUSTRIE aircraft equipped with a standby generator (FIN 25XE):
-A310, all certified models, all serial numbers on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 05910 has been embodied in production (AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin (SB) A310-24-2014 for in-service aircraft).
-A300-600, all certified models, all serial numbers on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 06213 has been embodied in production (SB A300-24-6008 for in-service aircraft).
A310 or A300-600 aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 12135 has been embodied in production (SB A310-24-2080 or A300-24-6070 or in-service aircraft) are not concerned by this Airworthiness Directive (AD).
REASONS:
Operators have reported cases of broken terminal lugs on the three-phase wiring to l2XC and l5XE contactors located on the "essential" part of the 101VU panel in the avionics compartment. On l5XE, the mounting lugs were also found broken.
The loss of these points of contact, which remains a "hidden failure" under normal conditions (no obvious repercussion) could have major to hazardous effects, in case of loss of the GEN 1 and GEN 2 generation sources.
The results of an inspection programme rendered mandatory by AD 1999-077-278(B), confirmed by flight tests and laboratory analyses, revealed the existence of too significant vibrations generated by the installation configuration of contactor l5XE.
ACTIONS:
Before December 31, 2001, modify the installation of contactor l5XE in accordance with the instructions or SB A310-24-2080 or A300-24-6070.
