AIRBUS INDUSTRIE
A310 and A300-600 aircraft
Flight Control Computers (F.C.C.) - Introduction of a new standard (ATA 22)
APPLICABILITY:
AIRBUS INDUSTRIE aircraft:
- A310 all certified models, all serial numbers equipped with FCCs P/N B350AAM4 or B470ABM2,
- A300-600 all certified models, all serial numbers, equipped with FCCs P/N B470AAM2.
The aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 11899 or 11900 has been embodied in production (AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin (SB) A310-22-2048 or A310-22-2049 or A300-22-6038 for in service aircraft) are not concerned by this Airworthiness Directive (AD).
REASONS:
With the current AP logics, in "V/S" mode, when the aircraft speed becomes greater than VMAX in descent or lower than VLS (lowest selectable speed) plus 5 kts in climb, an automatic reversion to "SPD" mode occurs.
It appears that some of these reversions are not immediately understood by crews, as, for example, cases of reversion from "V/S descent" to "SPD climb" when, in approach, the aircraft reaches VFE (max. speed for each slat and flap configuration) with an altitude lower than the FCU (Flight Control Unit) selected altitude.
This AD renders the installation of new FCC standards mandatory. Their logics have been modified, especially as regards:
- automatic mode changes,
- enhanced AP authority in a situation close to limit speeds,
- AP disconnection at VLS (lowest selectable speed) minus 10 kts.
ACTIONS:
Before July 31, 2002, replace FCCs:
- P/N B350AAM4 installed on A310 with FCCs P/N B350AAM6, in accordance with the instructions of SB A310-22-2048,
- P/N B470ABM2 installed on A310 by FCCs P/N B470ADM, in accordance with the instructions of SB's A310-22-2051 and A310-22-2049,
- P/N B470AAM2 installed on A300-600 with FCCs P/N B470ADM, in accordance with the instructions of SB's A300-22-6040 and A300-22-6038.
