Applicability: AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600, all certified models, all serial numbers except for :
- aircraft modified on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 10438 has been embodied after the effective date of this AD,
- aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2 or A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2 have been embodied.

Effective date: September 09, 1999.

Compliance: Required as indicated in DGAC AD 1999-240-288 (B).

Flight controls - Rudder servo control spring rods (ATA 27)

AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600, all certified models, all serial numbers except for :

- aircraft modified on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No. 10438 has been embodied after the effective date of this AD,

- aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2 or A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2 have been embodied.

Cases of jammed rudder servo control spring rodscaused by heavily corroded internal mechanism parts and clogged drain holes have been reported on in-service aircraft.

Simultaneous jamming of 2 servo-controls (out of the 3 which the rudder includes) would make it necessary for the crew to take a corrective action.

Before June 30, 2000:

Replace the spring rods in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2, A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2.

Note: On aircraft on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE modification No.10438 has been embodied before the effective date of this AD, or on which AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 (original issue or revision 1) or A310-27-2065 (original issue or revision 1) or A300-27-6023 (original issue or revision 1) has been embodied, identify the 3 rudder servo control spring rods and, if necessary, replace rods P/N A27270865002 in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletin A300-27-0182 revision 2, A310-27-2065 revision 2 or A300-27-6023 revision 2.
