Applicability: SAAB SF 340A -004 through -159 and SAAB 340B-160 through -459 with SGL Carbon Composites Inc. Brake Stack Kit.

Effective date: May 10, 1999

Compliance: Required as indicated in SAD 1-139.

AIRCRAFT TYPE: SAAB SF 340A and SAAB 3408

SERIAL No´s AFFECTED: SAAB SF 340A -004 through -159 and SAAB 340B-160 through -459 with SGL Carbon Composites Inc. Brake Stack Kit.

SUBJECT: Landing Gear - Brakes - Inspection of the installation combination of the brake assemblies

BACKGROUND: Together with the introduction of the ABSC 5012589-3 brakes (SB 340-32-113), and LFV acceptance to use SGL Carbon Composites Inc. Brake Stack Kit, FAA STC No. ST00341 LA on aircraft SAAB 340A and 340B,a restriction regarding the installation combinations was found necessary.

Further investigations have shown that additional restrictions are necessary in order to avoid an unbalanced aircraft handling situation and degradation of brake performance. Only symmetrical brake installation configurations are permitted. Therefore this SAD requires inspection and if necessary replacement of the brakes to achieve a symmetrical brake configuration on the aircraft.

SGL Carbon Composites Inc. FAA STC No. ST00341 LA.

ACTIONS: Perform actions described in Saab Aircraft Service Bulletin SAAB 340-32-114 dated 4 May 1998 or later revision. This SB is also applicable when SGL Carbon Composites Inc. Brake Stack Kit is installed. Please find all approved installation combinations on the table on page 2 in above SB.

SGL Brake Stack Kit can either be a brake assembly A or B in the table.

COMPLIANCE TIME: To be performed within 2 months after effective date of this SAD.
