Ram Air Turbine (RAT) uplock pin - Corrosion inspection
This Airworthiness Directive applies to AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A300, A310 and A300-600 aircraft, all certified models and all serial numbers, on which series modifications 11527 or AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletins A300-29-0109, A310-29-2077 or A300-29-6038 have not been embodied.
Undetected corrosion of the RAT uplock pin/shaft and the needle bearing supporting the feedthrough from the RAT uplock unit to the lever which is actuated by control cable, may prevent the RAT from extending.
Consequently, the following measures are rendered mandatory from the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive :
1)Before the aircraft reaches 30 months of service after delivery or before July 20, 1996, whichever occurs later, perform on ground, a ram air turbine extension test and remove the lever assy and perform a visual inspection in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletins A300-29-0108, A310-29-2076 or A300-29-6037.
Note 1: The aircraft which have already been inspected as per the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A.O.T. 29-16 of June 28,1995, or A.O.T. 29-16 revision 1 dated January 10, 1996, are not concerned by the requirements of paragraph 1 of this Airworthiness Directive.
2)Repeat the inspections in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletins A300-29-0108, A310-29-2076 of A300-29-6037 every 30 months or modify the RAT uplock unit in accordance with the instructions of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletins A300-29-0109, A310-29-2077 or A300-29-6038.
Note 2 : Should corroded parts be found, they must be scrapped and replaced by airworthy parts within the following 12 months. If they are re-used temporarily, they must be cleaned and greased before reinstallation.
Note 3 : Inform AIRBUS INDUSTRIE of all inspection findings, whatever they may be.
Note 4 : No further action in accordance with the Airworthiness Directive is required after accomplishment of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE Service Bulletins A300-29-0109, A310-29-2077 or A300-29-6038.
